Hacking has been going on since computers were first invented.
There are some people trained in hacking systems to find faults and vulnerabilities, but there are others who hack for illegal gains or amusement.
The newest hacking scam concerns ransomware.
Criminals are earning millions through the use of ransomware to hack into computer systems and scare the user into giving them money in exchange for a clean computer.
The good news is that you do not need to give into the hacker’s demands, you can do it yourself.
What Is Ransomware?
First of all, what does it mean when your computer has been taken over by ‘Ransomware?’
In short, your computer is held hostage, for a ransom payment. Hackers have somehow managed to install software onto your computer, usually through something like a program that you have downloaded, and now have access to everything.
The virus encrypts your files, and place a note on your computer demanding money to gain full access back – similar to a traditional kidnapping/ransom situation, just without any physical harm.
This attack has been around for several years now, but it is only recently that it has become popular. Some of the hackers have even shamed their victims into paying the money by placing pornography and other illicit material onto the computer so that the user will pay the ransom out of fear that computer technician will see the material when removing the virus.
Don’t Pay the Criminals!
If you do decide to pay someone to remove the ransomware for you, take it to a professional. Professional computer technicians understand this type of malware, and know that everything on show is from the criminals. They will not judge you, as they know the criminals have full control, so don’t hesitate to seek help when you need it. Don’t forget though – you don’t need to pay to have ransomware removed. In a few simple steps you can remove it from your PC yourself.
